DRINKAWARE JOINS RSA AND AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA TO SUPPORT COCA-COLA DESIGNATED DRIVER CAMPAIGN

Drinkaware joined with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, the Road Safety Authority and other supporters to launch this year’s Coca-Cola Designated Driver campaign. This Christmas, the campaign is shining a spotlight on our friends and family who help to keep our roads safe by becoming a designated driver for a night.

Visit the Designated Driver website to find participating venues near you and download a voucher, which you can exchange for free soft drinks, juice or water to those drivers who stay sober to ensure loved ones get home safely throughout the festive period.

Sheena Horgan, Drinkaware CEO, said: “Drinkaware is delighted to support this year’s designated driver campaign alongside the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána. Unfortunately, people in Ireland continue to choose to get behind the wheel after having a drink. In fact, drink driving arrests have been steadily increasing for the past three years. While it is clear that drink driving remains an issue, designated drivers play an important role in getting people home safe over the festive season.”

Minister Shane Ross TD said: “For many people, December will be a month of celebration; family get-togethers, parties and dinners with friends and work colleagues. The way to ensure that the season remains festive and is not marred with needless tragedy is to plan ahead how you get to and from your Christmas event. If public transport isn’t an option appoint a designated driver. This year Coca Cola’s award-winning campaign returns to Ireland, with free soft drinks, water or juice to every designated driver in the country for the entire month of December. So please, don’t drink and drive. Travel with a designated driver and ensure you and your loved ones all get to 2019 safely.”
